What it is
Galen Myotherapy is a hands-on massage and exercise rehabilitation therapy that improves joint, muscle and tissue health through myofascial release.
It works on the soft tissue — the muscle and fascia that move your dog and hold them together. Where those tissues are tight, sore or compensating for something else, that shows up as stiffness, a changed gait, reluctance on stairs, or a dog who has quietly stopped doing something they used to enjoy.
The work itself is unhurried. I read your dog’s body language throughout and adapt to what they will accept on the day, which changes from visit to visit. Alongside the hands-on treatment you get exercises to carry on between sessions — that part matters as much as the massage.
It is not veterinary treatment and it is not a diagnosis. It sits alongside your vet’s care, and where something needs a vet, it needs a vet.

Your dog is never forced. Treatment is choice-led, at their pace.
This is the part that tends to matter most to owners of anxious or guarded dogs. Your dog can move away, change position, or simply lie down and enjoy the massage. Nothing is held, restrained or pushed through. If they say no to something, that is information, and we work with it rather than against it.
It is also why first sessions with wary dogs often look like very little is happening. Establishing that they are safe and in charge is the treatment, at that stage.

Myotherapy is used to support comfort and movement. It is not a cure and it does not replace veterinary treatment — these are the areas the hands-on work is aimed at:
Circulation and lymph
Supports blood flow and lymphatic drainage through the tissue being worked on.

Aims to restore easier movement where compensation has changed how your dog carries themselves.
Pain and inflammation
Used to help reduce soreness and inflammation in the soft tissue, supporting comfort day to day.
What happens
Your first visit, start to finish.
The first appointment is a full consultation in your home, and it is longer than the sessions that follow.
We meet properly and go through what is troubling your dog — the history, what you have noticed, what has changed. I take photographs and video so there is something to measure progress against, work through the comfort scale with your dog, and handle the paperwork.
From that I put together a treatment plan tailored to them, and a twenty-minute session is included on the day. You will know what I think is going on, what I would like to do about it, and roughly how many visits that is likely to take before I leave.

Sessions can also include pulsed magnetic field therapy — at no extra cost.
A PEMF treatment mat goes underneath your dog while I work on them by hand, so both run at once. There is nothing to feel and no noise, and most dogs simply lie there and enjoy the massage.
It is not a separate appointment and there is nothing extra to pay. It is part of the session you are already booking.

In your dog’s own home.
I treat dogs at home across the corridor between Estepona and Sotogrande — including La Duquesa, Sabinillas, Manilva and Casares. Travel within 15 km of La Duquesa is included in the price; beyond that it is €1 per kilometre.
Working at home matters more than it sounds. A dog in their own space, on their own bed, with their own people, starts from a far calmer place than one who has been driven somewhere and led into a clinic.
What it costs

€70 — the first visit. A full consultation in your home, including a twenty-minute session on the day, and travel within 15 km of La Duquesa.
€50–70 — each treatment after. What a treatment costs depends on how long your dog needs and how big they are, and I will talk it through with you before anything is booked in. Block bookings come with a discount.
All prices include IVA. There are no consultation fees hidden behind an enquiry form — if the numbers do not work for you, you have not wasted an afternoon finding out.
Worth being clear about
I am not a veterinary surgeon, and this is not veterinary care.
I do not diagnose, and I do not treat conditions your vet has not seen. Myotherapy complements veterinary treatment and never replaces it. If your dog is unwell, in acute pain, or something has changed suddenly, please see your vet first — that is not a formality, it is the right order to do things in.
Spain does not require a vet referral for canine massage, so you can book directly. I would still rather your vet knows, and I am happy to work with them.

No. Spain does not require a veterinary referral for canine massage, so you can book directly. That said, if your dog is unwell or in acute pain, please see your vet first. Myotherapy supports recovery alongside veterinary care rather than replacing it.

My dog is nervous with strangers. Is this suitable?
Often it suits them better than anything else. Nothing is restrained and nothing is forced — your dog can move away at any point, and the first sessions are usually spent establishing that they are safe and in charge. Working in their own home rather than a clinic helps considerably.
